Event Details:
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School and Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice will host Cleveland痴 World Fair Trade Day Event on Saturday, May 12th at the Independence Civic Center 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Open to the public, students from area Catholic schools will educate on fair trade through speakers, displays and a fashion show.  Fair Trade practices guarantee clothing makers a decent, living wage and breaks the cycle of exploitation and debt typical of modern textile production.
Teens across Cleveland have expressed frustration that most clothing they find at their local stores and shopping malls are made in third world sweatshops.  Upon research, the students have found stores (local and on-line) which carry fair trade clothing.  The World Fair Trade Day is the studentsAE opportunity to educate one another and promote fair trade in the Cleveland area.
In addition to local fair trade organizations, such as Revive, Ten Thousand Villages, Equal Exchange, Heartbeats and the Inter-Religious Task Force, showcasing their products, there will be a fashion show, with a catwalk of fair trade items.
This free event is one of the ways these students for peace and justice are working toward a truly just world.
