Event Details:
The Centre for Public Interest Accounting and Development Studies Club are pleased to sponsor a public workshop to examine the increasing influence of market-based initiatives in fair trade and the need to examine its consequences in relation to the future of international development. 
 
Questions will include:       
▸ Can consumers be linked to international cooperation and development in a meaningful way?   
▸ Why is it important to place communities at the core of development projects?
▸ How can fair trade accountability standards serve as a mechanism for sustainable development projects?
 
Facilitated by:   
   Gavin Fridell: Author of Fair Trade Coffee: The Prospects and Pitfalls of Market-Driven Social Justice. Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario. 
 
Attendees will learn to: 
1.  establish the relationship between ethical branding, consumption, development standards and sustainability.
2.  recognize the process and political significance of fair trade.
3.  analyze the challenges and opportunities fair trade offers producers in the Global South.
