Socializing Fair Trade through Fair Trade Football
Country: Indonesia
Host: Mitra Bali
Where: Abuan Elementary School
Venue Address: Abuan Village, Bangli Region, Bali, Indonesia
when: May 5
Event Details:
Saturday morning May'5, Mitra Bali Team together with the producers will make a convoy to go to Abuan village located under the shadow of Batur Volcano. It will take one hour from Mitra Bali office to get to the village. The people of this Village have great potential in making a wooden crafts. Since May 2004 Mitra Bali has been promoting this village as a Fair Trade Village. We find that people here have not had much experience of Fair Trade and that the best way to communicate our message is to show them by visiting Abuan Village. This will help everyone to have a better understanding of how fair trade works. Replantation is an on going project of Mitra Bali. We planted planted Albesia wood every year in this village.  To commemorate the World Fair Trade Day this May, Mitra Bali will plant another 500 of albesia wood in Abuan, albesia is a fast growing wood, ecologically friendly for making crafts. Before plantation!
Mitra Bali will begin their program with a Football game popular with the Kids of Abuan. Through this game we expect the Kids learn how important to be fair because fair play is the heart of fair trade.   Abuan Village only has one elementary school. The kids of grade 4,5 and 6 will be involved in this program. After the Fair Trade Football game we will share the fair trade principles with the kids, teachers, villagers, the village head, Mitra Bali producers and Mitra Bali team. At the end of the event we will distribute to school first aid box, a set of cleaning equipments and 'small' welfare fund for the school.
