Event Details:
The Fair takes place in central Bangkok and will feature over 55 community-based craft producer groups from all regions of Thailand. There will be a special feature of handmade soap from the Andaman Sea coast of Southern Thailand. Artisans will be demonstrating their craft. Overcoming Tragedy with Soap: before destruction by the tsunami of December 2004, Ban Talai Nok was a quiet Muslim fishing village that had changed little over time. Bereaved women faced new challenges by hand-making soap as a therapeutic activity, which has now become a means to make extra income.
As with all monthly ThaiCraft Fairs, traditional and modern crafts of all kinds will be on display: baskets, large and small, of many fibres; weaving (cotton and silk); ceramics; silver and bead jewellery; embroideries; hill-tribe artefacts; recycled paper products; recycled plastic items; stainless-steel tableware; greetings cards; applique quilts; handmade spa soaps and lotions; leather shadow puppets; artificial flowers (from rubber leaves, Japanese clay and sticky rice); coconut utensils and jewellery; wood-craft; palm-leaf mobiles; twig lamps; and many more.
