World Fair Trade Day 2006 "Fair Trade Now!" > GO |
Students learn about Fair Trade CD Crafts
Yogyarta Indonesia www.cdcraft.biz Hosts: CD Crafts employees Woro Wahyuningtyas and Bryony Jones and guest speaker craftswoman Mbak Picuk Where: Yogyakarta, Indonesia: Karlitas Middle School and Atma Jaya University When: May 8-9, 2008 In celebration of World Fair Trade Day 2008, CD Crafts Indonesia created posters and stickers and partnered with Karlitas Middle School and Atma Jaya University to encourage critical thinking about the meaning of fair trade. The goal was to create a fun and interactive environment for educating young and motivated Indonesian students about pressing global concerns like global warming, international trade, and sustainable development. Together, students glued, cut and recycled used water bottles into creative crafts. We then simulated the difficulties and consequences associated with selling these goods in a competitive and unbalanced free trade environment. This was a great way to get kids to laughing, sharing, and thinking critically about the current global trading system and how their actions as consumers affect the environment and livelihoods around them! ![]() 6 ![]() 7 6-7 Karlitas Middle School sharing, and thinking critically about the current global trading system |
