Oikocredit and fair trade!

Fair trade and fair finance are important factors in development. Conscious consumers contribute to promoting fair prices and fair markets for producers. But what about fair finance? Can those consumers also contribute to the financial needs of producers in developing countries? Fair finance means financing of projects in developing countries at reasonable interest rates, creating work opportunities and better income. Oikocredit has been doing this for more than 30 years. Importers of fair trade products may get credit from regular banks, but local producers often can't get loans at all. They can't meet the banks' requirements, simply because a regular bank doesn’t see supplies of coffee or handmade products as collateral. Oikocredit does and that’s what sets it apart. This year's WFTD's theme is "Fair Trade + Ecology", Oikocredit believes that a healthy balance in nature can only be achieved in a world where resources and power are evenly spread. When financing a project partner, this is why the environmental implications of our projects as well as animal welfare are also looked at. Come and meet our support associations and learn more about fair financing.
